“A WET MESS”
We were initially called in for our Client Liaison services to help manage this huge project. The project was started due to a severely clogged toilet upstairs. This caused a flood into the hallway and basement which ruined floors, sheetrock, wood paneling, etc. In the end this turned into much more than we anticipated.
The homeowner’s insurance company brought in a team to perform mold remediation before we got started. This included opening up walls, ceilings, and ripping up hard wood flooring to remove all water damage.
Once they were finished, we were able to get moving. First, we went in and noticed some tile below the basement floor. Due to the age of the house, we had the tile inspected and tested for asbestos, which it did test positive. We made some calls and brought in a company to do an asbestos abatement.
Next, since the ceiling and walls were open, we called Rich at R.J. Powers Plumbing & Heating to come in and fix some corroded pipes on the tub that were becoming a problem and leaking as well. Later, we had Rich come back to install the new sink and toilet for the basement bathroom.
While everything was open, we reached out to Steve at Grumman Electric to fix and swap out the old electrical outlets and as well as replace the old, outdated lighting with some new LED recessed lighting to help brighten up the space. This also helped warm up the space up, so it didn’t feel like just a dark and gloomy basement. While he was there, he also brought the basement bathroom up to code by adding in a new GFCI plug which there wasn’t one previously. He also removed the old vanity light, and we added a nice new LED recessed light to that room as well.
Then we proceeded with having Bela, from Bela’s Home Maintenance Services come in and patch the missing sheetrock and ceiling that was damaged in the flood. Bela did an amazing job from replacing the sheetrock, to trimming around the room and finishing it all up with a great paint job.
One of our owners, Molly, personally handled the design and aesthetics of the room to stay within the scope of what was needed for the homeowner’s occupant. We made sure to add in extra special touches later on for the family member of the homeowner who occupied the home. A few of the special requests were to lighten and brighten the space and add some light décor while keeping the existing furniture pieces. We feel we were able to add a nice, warm, and bright feel to this once dull and boring basement.
We worked with lumber liquidators for the flooring for the basement and upstairs. Due to the flooding the back bedroom, hallway, and dining room were also affected. We had Lumber Liquidators match the existing hardwood flooring. Due to the ageing occupant in the house, who suffered from incontinence problems, we made sure to add in laminate flooring to the upstairs hallway as well as the entire basement. This is not a typical request, but it gave the aides the ability to sanitize the flooring better.
Once the flooring was installed, we reached out to Fernando at 5-Star Hardwood & flooring, LLC. He and his team came to sand and stain the remaining hardwood floors. They were a huge help, and per Fernando’s suggestion, we were able to do the front room and steps as well. Now there is no more old and out date yellow carpeting! This project became more than expected, but we could not be happier with the results.
Other aspects of this project fell under our “Client Liaison Services”, purchasing some clothing items and bath towels for the client’s family member to make her more comfortable.
All in all, this was a successful job, and our client is very happy with the outcome! A big thank you to all who helped get this job completed. Also, a huge thank you to our great team for the many hours and heavy lifting!
